Potatoes

Round Whites – Available mid- September to May at your local store or direct from the Farm.  All potatoes are packed in 3 ply paper bags with our trademark design (as shown above).  Paper bags will also be put in box for home shipment.  If you would like us to ship you, "the way potatoes are supposed to taste," please contact us for pricing.

The following brief descriptions and prices are for the 2005 Certified Potato Seed season.  Potatoes are graded to Maine seed size (1 ½ - 2 3/4 ). We can ship 5#, 10#, 20# bags, please order by March 10th. To make life easier, prices for all varieties listed (except "All blue") are $0.50/lb.  (Prices do not include Shipping.) Some of our “favorites” are listed below.  If you don’t find your favorite, just contact us and we’ll see what we can do!

“Round whites” - (white/buff skin, white flesh)

Green Mountain - “old-timers favorite”
More oblong than round shape,
Plant is large with white flowers,
Excellent for boiling and baking - great flavor!
Deep eyes make this not so pretty - but flavor makes up for it
Late maturity - High yield

Irish Cobbler
Plant is medium size, erect to spreading
Flowers are lilac with white tips
Good for boiling or chipping in early season
Early maturity - medium yield
 

Katahdin
Plant is medium to large, spreading
Flowers are light purple, large, numerous
Good boiling, wet potato excellent storability
**tubers set high in hill - cover well to avoid sunburn!
Late maturity - High yield

Kennebec
Plant is large, spreading, large leaves and thick stems
Flowers are white, few
Good for chipping, good storability
Mid season maturity - High yield

Shepody
Shape is more long than round
Plant is medium, spreading
Flowers light violet with orange-green star and white acumens, numerous
Excellent for French Fry. Good baking and boiling
Mid-season maturity - medium - high yield

Superior -“ our” favorite early variety
Plant is medium size, small leaflets, upright growth
Flowers are pale lilac with white tips
Good cooking quality, good chipping
Space 8" apart to get bigger size, need room to grow
Early maturity - medium yield

Norwis (more of a pale yellow flesh)
Shape is more flattish, blocky oval
Plant is large, spreading with white flower
Plant close to avoid oversize
Mid-season maturity - high yield

Yukon Gold - (Skin & Flesh are yellowish)
Plant is medium large, upright
Flowers are light violet
Good boiling and baking
Mid-season maturity, High yield

“Red Potatoes”

Chieftain (Bright red skin, white flesh)
Tuber is round oval
Plant is medium size, spreading
Flowers are light violet, large
Good color after boiling
Mid-season maturity - High yield

Dark Red Norland (Smooth red skin, white flesh)
Tuber is medium oblong
Plant is medium large, spreading
Flowers are purple
Good storability, fair cooking quality
Early maturity - variable yield

Red Pontiac (Dark red skin, white flesh)
Tuber is oblong to round
Plant is large, spreading
Flower is light purple with tips
Fair boiling and baking quality
Most popular red-skinned variety
Mid-season - High yield

 

“Russet Potatoes” Plant 12-15" apart and hill well

Russet Burbank (Russet skin, white flesh)
Tuber is long
Plant is medium size, spreading with white, few flowers
Good boiling, excellent baking, French fries
Very late maturity - High yield

Russet Norkotah (Dark russet skin, white flesh)
Tuber is long and very smooth
Plant is medium, slightly upright with white flowers
Excellent baking, moderate for boiling
Mid-season maturity - High yield

“All Blue” - $0.75/lb (+ shipping)

The “Fun” potato...try a red-white-blue potato salad, or have purple mashed potatoes for dinner, or make purple potato chips!

Blue-purple skin, light violet flesh, with purple ring

Flowers white, purple stem
